ARE YOU IN?!

The Brunch Part
If you're in (see below), please bring a yummy item to share with the party. There will be a spreadsheet shared on GDrive to share what everyone plans to bring (including paper plates, drinks, etc.) Bringing low sodium items will be considered a bribe to the dungeon master (Ramon) and bribes are encouraged. Booze is also encouraged, especially Bailey's which may be added to coffee as a Jinx bribe, and bribes are encouraged.

The Adventure Part - The Setting:
Life for the average person in your world is boring and stale. There is no mobility for change and you live and die the lot you're born in. That simply isn't good enough for you. You've decided to be an adventurer. As such you feel a strong call in your bones to adventure. The boredom of a calm life doesn't appeal to you. You choose where to go and what to do. Societies see you adventurers as outliers and deviants. They generally look down on adventurers for various reasons. You've gone to the edge of civilization to test your metal and make something of yourselves. You live, rest, work, trade, and spend all your down time in the pioneer city of Verizscali at the edge of the known world. Here you've left the safety of civilization to explore the wilds and ruins of long dead civilizations to make a name for yourself. The setting is loosely inspired by the Almoravid and Etruscan civilizations but placed in a fantasy setting, if that helps.

Some mechanics you should know about:
#1 - This D&D campaign is intended to be a 5th Edition D&D sandbox type game. You and your player characters drive the content. This system is designed so that not every member of our group needs to attend every session. Parties can be a mix and match of existing player characters and new ones regardless of levels. Games must be at least 3 people and a max of 5. We will ask for confirmation a few days prior to the session. Below 3 confirmations we will cancel a session, and we will stop taking people when we hit 5 -- except for our first meeting for character creation / first quest day.

#2 - You will generally begin sessions at Verizscali, the city on the very edge of the known world. You will go out on an adventure and have to return to Verizscali by the end of your session. If you do not, your dungeon master will do so for you at a penalty to you.

#3 - You can only gain experience outside of Verizscali. You must choose downtime activities and lifestyle expenses to be resolved at the beginning of the next session starting at the beginning of your 2nd session.

#4 - However, spending time in town has it benefits. You may find out about other quests, Verizscali itself is dynamic and can be expanded and upgraded. You can own property in it for various purposes and by investing in rapport with NPCs through a variety of means you can unlock various services. For example you've befriended a priest at the temple, and you've chosen to make a donation of 150 gold to expand the library. You would have unlocked the a research ability LvL1 at this temple. You may now spend your downtime activities researching a specific topic or in general. If you choose in general you gain a d4 at LvL1 (d6 at LvL2, d8 at LvL3) to apply to any wisdom skill check at your discretion. If you choose to research a specific topic of religious substance you know 1 new thing (2 at LvL2, 3 at LvL3) about that topic you did not know before. Other facilities have different offering but work similarly. The prices and services may vary wildly.

#5 - We will be using inspiration and the dungeon master will grant inspiration when you stick to your personality traits, ideals, bonds, and flaws at his discretion and particularly when it is to your detriment. Additionally you can gain inspiration through story telling at any short or long rest. You may tell a story about the characters background, motivations, or desires to gain inspiration. Your party members may ask questions or comment and the storyteller can reward the best question or comment by assigning the next turn to story tell at the next rest.

5E - Players Handbook

5E - Players Supplementary Handbook

You may pre-choose your race, and class with the above in mind. You may choose your own personality traits, ideals, bonds, and flaws. You only need to share the details with the Dungeon master and any sharing with the party is at your discretion. If your race and class do not assign a feat, you may pick any one of your choice to personalize your player characters to be more to your liking, more fun, and more worthwhile to the DM to (attempt to?) murder. If you don't care you can just roll it out in person. Questions, comments, ideas from players are encouraged.

Didn't understand any or all of that? Don't worry it will be explained again in person. Also, the DM plans to murder at least one player every so often, so you'll have the exciting opportunity to re-roll and try again!
